This afternoon Don found out from the NWH team that his abscess has not gone down in size as expected, and it is still draining. They are not finding amoeba & fecal matter in the drainage as they expected, but are finding some “abnormal” cells. They want to do a biopsy, and try to find out what’s happening, and what’s there. Don has called Dr. Segal, a top specialist in infectious & tropical diseases. Don also has an appointment on Monday with a Dr Alex Read, a gastroenterologist and liver specialist. Don also hopes to be referred to UW by Dr Read and get an appointment there with Dr Jorge Reyes, the Director of the Liver Transplant Unit. The presence of “abnormal” cells obviously is a matter of concern. One MD & Agros board member says there’s no reason to believe those cells are cancerous. She says that cancer cells don’t generally cause abscesses.
Don is in good spirits, is not in pain, feels totally at peace come what may, and says he feels more alive than ever, and more in love with Jesus than ever. He is neither scared nor anxious. He says Heather likewise is taking the posture that she is not going to assume anything negative. Don covets our prayers, and asked me to convey this information to you, and his request for prayer.
